After reading “Making Natural Hoof Care Work For You” by Pete Ramey, it made so much sense I decided to give it a try. He suggested using hoof boots during the transition from shoes to “barefoot” which will get you back to riding, which in turn will speed up this transition time. After just four months my ten year old mule has pretty much already completed the transition, but I DO carry my boots with me as a backup. |
My three year old horse can ride most trails but is still a little tender on his front feet on gravel roads. However, his tender feet don’t stop me from riding the gravel roads when I use the boots. My 12 year old cowboy mounted shooting horse was developing lameness in her front feet and has already adapted her back feet. I see a lot of progress with her and, at the present time, she’s ridden on the trails with boots on her front feet. In the arena she can now be ridden with or without boots. I’ve even done team penning, barrel racing and pole bending while using the boots and she’s done fine.
I wholeheartedly recommend Cavallo Boots and “Making Natural Hoof Care Work For You” by Pete Ramey.
